HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN A EUROPEAN SONG CONTEST ?

The 2009 Nòs Ùr competition is attracting interest from Shetland at the very north of the UK to Brittany in France, and many points in between. The deadline for submissions is drawing near so if you are a singer/songwriter with a passion for minority languages, don't miss an opportunity to perform at this year's regional final in Inverness, Scotland.

Nòs Ùr, meaning 'new style' in Gaelic, is a Celtic and Scots language competition based on the Eurovision Song Contest format. It attracted numerous entries for its 2008 launch from all over the UK, Ireland and Brittany.  Two winners, who were selected by a panel of judges and a public vote, then went on to represent the Celtic languages at a Grand European final in Sweden.

Event organiser Brian Ó hEadhra said: "The inaugural Nòs Ùr was a great success and we're looking forward to attracting even more talent to this year's event. Submissions are still welcome in Scottish Gaelic, Irish, Scots, Ulster Scots, Manx, Welsh, Cornish, and Breton.

"New songs and contemporary styles are encouraged and there is a separate youth concert planned for teenage acts, so all ages can get involved.

"Entries are welcome for the 2009 contest and artistes have until February 28th to send in their applications. The winners will receive major industry and media interest, especially when they go onto the Grand European final to represent their languages."

The event will also feature a conference on minority languages under the UHI Millennium Institute and a number of music industry talks.

Interested ? Then contact us with your entry or visit the website to find out more. Good luck !

Nòs Ùr is being staged by goEvents which promotes and develops creative arts in the Highlands and Islands. It is supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), Highland Council, Colmcille, Scottish Arts Council, Bòrd na Gàidhlig and MG ALBA.
